Short-Term Running Goals:

-Qualify for the 2024 Olympic marathon trials

Long-Term Running Goals:

-Run a few fast marathons. Grandma's, St. George, and Boston are on my target list. An Olympic Trials qualifier would be amazing.

-Break stroller records?

-Stay fit for a very long time. I believe what goes into making a competitive runner at age 60 is much different than age 20, just like what goes into making a good marathoner differs from a good sprinter. I hope that by taking care of my body, I can be very fast for my age as I get older.

Personal:

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I served a mission in Rome, Italy from 2015 to 2017. I eat a whole food, plant-based diet, which I believe helps my running. I like chocolate shakes on sunday nights and I will always call the Pacific northwest home.

I felt like I was slipping around less with my shoes laced up today. I think my body is not only rested but adjusting as well because I did 10 miles (and two strides) today and it didn't feel taxing hardly at all. Aerobically a bit, but there was no fatigue hardly at all. My tendon did fairly well.

I was really winded today- literally. I had planned on doing a cutdown (six miles going from 5:50 to 5:00 or so). I even paced my warm up miles. I really tried to do it the way I had planned. But I didn't notice that it was quite windy, but that once I started running, the wind seemed to disappear. Every runner knows that on a windy day when you can't feel anything it's because the wind is at your back. My first mile was 5:34 and it felt amazing. I decided to run about the same for the next mile- I hit 5:32. Its hard to say because I know sometimes I overestimate my ability to hold a pace, but I felt so good. Then I turned around for the rest of the run. Wind was blasting my in the face almost the hole time. When it wasn't I would sometimes "forget" to speed up, so I don't think I gave it my all, but I do think if I could have been consistent without wind my time would have been much faster. Anyway, my splits afterward were: 5:35, 5:33, 5:31, 5:26. Oh well. Hopefully tomorrow goes well!

Went to Kiwanis again. I had planned on doing 9. It's hard to remember how I felt last week exactly but I want to say I felt better than last week! I'm planning on doubling tomorrow at the current rate.

AM: 5 miles, a little sore achilles.

PM: Wow, this actually felt really good. I was pushing it a little much (6:27 pace or so while running it mostly on grass) which I tend to do on the provo river trail. But I'm excited, to feel this way after pushing it as much as I have is awesome!

I feel kind of bad for stopping at my friends tailgait. Oh well. Despite me not feeling amazing (and a newer pain that seemed less threatening in my lower and upper rather than middle parts of the tendon), I was surprised to start running again and not feel sore.

I ran out to the airport for the first time. That road that goes around the airport is really straight and no one is out there. It's almost boring. I'm not sure if I'll do it again. Averaged 5:55 miles. I felt pretty tired and slow. Hopefully I am capable of more than this but it's just that my body is adjusting to the higher mileage. I didn't speed up much, it was probably 6:30 for the first couple miles, then a 6:10, and then 5:44s the whole rest of the way (that was my average coming back).
