Short-Term Running Goals:

-Qualify for the 2024 Olympic marathon trials

Long-Term Running Goals:

-Run a few fast marathons. Grandma's, St. George, and Boston are on my target list. An Olympic Trials qualifier would be amazing.

-Break stroller records?

-Stay fit for a very long time. I believe what goes into making a competitive runner at age 60 is much different than age 20, just like what goes into making a good marathoner differs from a good sprinter. I hope that by taking care of my body, I can be very fast for my age as I get older.

Personal:

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I served a mission in Rome, Italy from 2015 to 2017. I eat a whole food, plant-based diet, which I believe helps my running. I like chocolate shakes on sunday nights and I will always call the Pacific northwest home.

Muddy workout at Intramural, not because of rain or anything, but the sprinklers. That's what happens when you live in a desert lol.

Mile breakdown: 4:46, 3:33, 2:18, 67, 65, 65. Three or four minutes rest. The first mile didn't feel as good as hoped, felt some lactate in my legs. Afterwards my right achilles felt a little sore, I think it will be fine.

Amazing that a morning run felt so warm in November. I'll enjoy it while it lasts. Achilles was still a little sore, so no strides.

10 miles in my new Pegs. I like them more than previous version. Even though we are on break after Friday, I am hoping my achilles tendons can be ok through the 5 mile race in spikes.

60, 60, 30, 29. Wished it would have felt a bit easier.

First race in over a year. Normally in workouts you try to stay within yourself and not push it too hard. Racing is exactly the opposite- the purpose is to push harder even when it really hurts, especially when you have moved into scoring position for your team and your team isn't doing very well. I felt good running the first mile (somewhat downhill) in 4:46, just off the main pack. Then I was at 9:36 at two miles. I felt controlled for just long enough that I was able to survive the last mile. I was really tired and we had to work our way up a hill at the end, but it was kind of a stalemate between the guy in front of me and the guy behind me. We were all pretty close together but none of us had much of a kick.

Anyway, I'm glad I was able to show up for the one race of my XC season, and look forward to training this winter. I hope to continue to improve. I was super glad my thigh felt good today.

Ran out on to the park and onto the pier thing that goes on the lake this morning. It was gorgeous. A little windy today but some of the guys weren't wearing shirts. This was really the last day to soak up the warmth. By some miracle my achilles tendons were fine as was my thigh, but right when we turned around my groin area started hurting. Hopefully it will be better soon.
