Short-Term Running Goals:

-Qualify for the 2024 Olympic marathon trials

Long-Term Running Goals:

-Run a few fast marathons. Grandma's, St. George, and Boston are on my target list. An Olympic Trials qualifier would be amazing.

-Break stroller records?

-Stay fit for a very long time. I believe what goes into making a competitive runner at age 60 is much different than age 20, just like what goes into making a good marathoner differs from a good sprinter. I hope that by taking care of my body, I can be very fast for my age as I get older.

Personal:

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I served a mission in Rome, Italy from 2015 to 2017. I eat a whole food, plant-based diet, which I believe helps my running. I like chocolate shakes on sunday nights and I will always call the Pacific northwest home.

7:00 pace on como classic. Legs still feeling tired. Although Cleveland ave isn't fully finished, it was nice to do the normal route again today. First time wearing tights this season.

Workout this morning. This was another example of what should be an abhorently bad workout. But I wasn't too phased by it as I am coming off a marathon, and I haven't been doing fast stuff. Plus ever since I left NCAA running, I've had some pretty bad workouts and been in surprisingly good shape for races. Still, it's weird to run in the low 2:20s and have that be hard on a nice morning. I have run plenty of 800s in the low 2 teens in workouts comfortably. I'm confident I could get back there though. Hopefully between today and my next workout pre-race I can get a little sharper. Did a 2 mile tempo to transitway and back in 10:25. Then I took an 11 minute rest (talked to my coach again), and did 3x800 w/ equal rest in 2:25, 2:25, 2:22.

7:03 pace, boom island. Felt tired again. I'm not sure whether it would be better to work out again tomorrow or Saturday.

I think today's workout would have been fun despite the elements, but I'm feeling like I must be dealing with something similar to last year when I got back to workouts too quick after my 10K. Despite the weather, my workout was really bad. Supposed to be progressing K repeats on the track w/ 90 seconds rest. I ran 3:10, 3:07, 3:08, and before the last one decided the smart thing to do (not the cowardly thing) would be to only run 600, which I did in 1:48. I couldn't believe how hard these were. I know I've been in good shape this year and need to trust that this must just be the effect of the marathon. It's a good lesson for me, too about recovery after a race like that. Yet another reason why the marathon probably isn't my favorite distance.

Other than that it was actually a kind of cool workout. It was a dark, stormy Friday morning. Pretty quiet in the neighborhood of the athletics area/CVD research bldg where I warmed up and cooled down. It wasn't raining when I started but started drizzling and then dumping. Strong winds. After my last rep I kind of kneeled down on the track for a minute- its a cool feeling to be in pouring rain, 45 degrees but not feel cold at all for a minute, and just to enjoy the rain.

Probably a little short of 13 miles. This might be my last run on gateway this season. It rained like 2 inches yesterday so there were leaves everywhere and a couple trees on the path. Nice day though with some sunny and cloudy parts. I ate what I presume is a crab apple. Not even the ultra fast gateway trail could get me under 6 minute pace on this run though, feeling as I do. This was probably my slowest go on it ever, except right after my surgery last year. Splits: 7:00, 6:13, 6:24, 6:12, 6:19, 6:29, 6:38, 6:21, 6:14, 6:21, 5:48, 6:19. 3:20 and 2:50 for the bookends.
